1.            HISTORY
Kkottongnae, or “Flower Village” in English, is a community of love and salvation in South Korea. It warmly welcomes and feeds those people who have been abandoned by their families and by society and who are silently wasting away on the streets and under the bridges because of lack of love. These people usually have no one to depend on nor even the strength to beg for food. Kkottongnae provides them with food, shelter, and clothing and give them medical treatments. Kkottongnae also introduces them to God’s love and even provides funerals for them when they pass away.
Kkottongnae was founded by Fr. John Oh Woong-Jin, who has been devoting his entire life to the poor. Fr. Oh was born on March 22, 1944 to a family of farmers in Chungbuk Province in South Korea.

DREAM OF CHILD
As a boy, Fr. Oh experienced the Korean War during his early years in elementary school. One day, while on the way home from school, he stopped to drink water at a nearby stream. At the stream, he saw a refugee and his daughter arguing over a shrimp. Taking a closer look, he realized that their argument was over who should eat the shrimp. The little daughter had caught the shrimp in the stream and she wanted her father to have it. But the father was trying to give it to his daughter. The father had only one leg, as he had lost one of his limbs from a bomb blast. Upon witnessing this event, Oh Woong-jin, who was himself a very hungry boy, began to dream of becoming a person who would devote his life for those who were dying from hunger. To make the dream come true, he became a Catholic priest in 1976 and began his assignment at Geumwang Church.

AN ENCOUNTER
On September 12, 1976 he had a providential encounter with an old man called Choi Gwi-dong(means precious son) that would change his life forever. That day, Fr. Oh saw a beggar passing by his church. Out of curiosity, Fr. Oh decided to follow him. what Fr. Oh saw shocked and startled him. Living in a dugout at the foot of Yongdam mountain, eighteen beggars were huddled together with no one to help them and without the strength to even beg for food. The group consisted of tuberculosis patients, the mentally ill, alcoholics, the blind, and a few cripples. Fr. Oh witnessed grandpa Choi Gwi-dong distributing the food that he had collected from his begging to the group. When he had finished feeding the eighteen, he ate what little there was remaining.
Returning to the rectory, Fr. Oh could not sleep. He tossed and turned all night thinking about the grandfather. He thought to himself, “I became a priest to make my dream to live for the poor come true, but grandpa Choi Gwi-dong is already living a life of practicing love, even though he barely has the strength to beg, not to mention that he is in worse physical condition and less educated than I am.” After thinking over and over about what he had seen, at around dawn the next morning, he had a sudden flash of insight. He thought, “Even if you have only the strength to beg for food, it is the blessing of the Lord.” Later that morning, using all the money that he had in his possession--1,300Won(1USD), Fr. Oh bought some cement and began to make bricks to build his house of love for the beggars.
On October 15, 1976 he started construction of a house with 5 rooms at the foot of Yongdam mountain. The house was completed a month later on November 15 and housed the 18 beggars grandpa Choi Gwi-dong took care of. The people in the neighborhood called it “The House of Love.” This is the origin of Kkottongnae.

THE GOOD SAMARITAN AND THE NEW COVENANT
On August 16, 1978, Fr. Oh found a dying old man who had fallen into a coma on the Bantan Bridge (also called the “Jordan Bridge”) of Cheongpyeong. Although many cars and people passed him by, nobody tried to help him just as in the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-35). Since his childhood, Father Oh had always tried to help beggars or sick people on the street, so he stopped his car to take a look at the man. As he was taking the old man to the hospital, he heard these words from Heaven, “Could another day be more joyful and delightful than today? With great joy indeed, I thank you for saving the life of my beloved son. I will make a new covenant with you: “I will take care of everything else if you receive the least of my brothers in my name.” At that very moment, he experienced deeply that his action had truly pleased God. Since then, whenever Father Oh took the sick or homeless into his care, everything that was needed for their care began to appear; food, clothing, volunteers, money, and other necessities. Father Oh would often speak about his new covenant with the congregation. During a sermon on August 19, 1991, he stated, “If I had found and brought someone dying from the streets after breakfast even when we were out of food for lunch, someone would always come and bring lunch for us before lunch time.”

THE APPROVAL OF THE DIOCESE
Divine love has been revealed by the Holy Spirit to the surrounding people and many sick and homeless people have begun to gather at our community. So far, Kkottongnae has taken care of about 13,000 sick and abandoned people: 4,000 have passed away, 5,000 have returned to society and 4,000 patients are currently living in the community. God has prepared the young workers who will devote their entire lives to helping the sick and the homeless. In 1979, a young man came to devote his life to Kkottongnae and its mission. In 1981, two girls also came and began their lives of devotion to the cause. Thus, the foundation of our community has been laid down by these devotees. Currently, there are over 100 brothers and 230 sisters who have dedicated their lives to Kkottongnae and its mission.
On December 27th, 1986, at the feast of St. John, the Most Rev. Nicholas Cheong, the Bishop of Cheongju (the present Cardinal of Korea) visited Kkottongnae and announced his approval of the establishment of the Congregation of Kkottongnae Brothers and Sisters of Jesus.

3.CHARISM
The founding charism of Kkottongnae is taking sufferings and death on behalf of helpless neighbors who do not even have the strength to beg by following the words of Jesus Christ: “The greatest love you can have for your friends is to give your life for them (John 15:13).”
Embracing this spirit is to live the life of ceaseless love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus who even sacrificed his last drop of blood for us.

5.MISSION
A world Kkottongnae is dreaming of is
A world where no one is forsaken,
A world where everyone is respected just as God is,
A world where everyone loves his neighbor as he loves himself.

6.FORMATION

Aspirancy
It is time for affiliates to learn the congregational traditions and a liturgical life under the guidance of the director of affiliates.
Postulancy
During this time, postulants grow in responsibility for community life. It is time to learn the Catholic doctrine of consecrated life and theologies and to prepare for participation in ministry.
Novitiate
The novitiate is a critical time for novices to recognize the calling of God. It is time to put effort into studies for a religious life and understand the charism of our congregation. Novices participate in life of the community and develop their spirituality by following the founder’s teachings.
Temporary profession
In this period, brothers are encouraged in spiritual growth and participate in the ministry. It is time to understand what they learned in the novitiate more deeply under the guidance of the director.
Perpetual profession (Ongoing formation)
At the end of the formation procedure, brothers take vows of chastity, poverty and obedience for life and dedicate themselves to God perpetually.

KKOTTONGNAE (ပန်းများပွင့်သောရွာ)

        ကော့တုန်းနေးသနာပြုအဖွဲ့၏ သမိုင်းအကျဥ်းချုပ်

 ကော့တုန်းနေးရွာဆိုသည်မှာ တောင်ကိုရီယားနိုင်ငံတွင်ရှိသော ချစ်ခြင်းမေတ္တာနှင့် ကယ်တင်ခြင်းဆိုင်ရာ လူုရေးအဖွဲ့အစည်းတရပ်ဖြစ်ပါသည်။

       မိသားစုများနှင့် လူ့အဖွဲ့အစည်းများမှာ စွန့်ပစ်ခံရသူများနှင့်လမ်းများနှင့် တံတားအောက်တွင် ချစ်ခြင်းမေတ္တာမရရှိခြင်းကြောင့် ပိန်‌ညောင်ချိနဲ သူများကို ကော့တုန်းနေးမှ နွေးထွေးစွာကြိုဆိုပြီး ကျွေးမွေးစောင့်ရှောက်ပါသည်။ အဆိုပါ စွန့်ပစ်ခံလူသားများသည် အားကိုးရာမဲ့သကဲ့သို့ တောင်းပြီးစားသောက်ရာတွင် မတက်နိုင်လောက်အောင် အင်အားများကင်းမဲ့နေကြပါသည်။ ၎င်းတို့ ကော့ကုန်းနေးမှ စားဝတ်နေရေးနှင့်တကွ ကျန်းမာရေးစောင့်ရှောက်မှုများကို ထောက်ပံ့ပေးပါသည်။ ထို့ပြင် သူတို့အား ဘုရားသခင်၏ ချစ်ခြင်းမေတ္တာရရှိရန် လမ်းညွှန်မှုများပေးသည့်အပြင် ထိုသူတို့ ဘဝ ပျောက်ဆုံးချိန် နေဝင်ချိန်တွင်လည်း အသုဘအခမ်းအနားများနှင့် သင်္ဂြိုလ်  ပေးပါသည်။ကော့တုန်းနေး အသင်းတော်ကို ဘုန်းတော်ကြီး ဂျွန်အိုဝူးဂျင်ကစတင် တည်ထောင်ခဲ့ပါသည်။ ဘုန်းတော်ကြီးအိုဝူးဂျင်ကို မတ်လ ၂၂ ရက်၊ ၁၉၄၄ ခုနှစ် တွင် တောင်ကိုရီးယားနိုင်ငံ ချောင်ဘတ်ပြည်နယ်ရှိ လယ်သမားမိသားစုတွင် မွေးဖွားခဲ့ပါသည်။

ဘုန်းတော်ကြီးအိုဝူးဂျင် ၏ငယ်စဉ်ဘဝရည်မှန်းချက်

     ဘုန်းလေးကြီး အိုဝူးဂျင် ငယ်စဉ်မူလတန်းကျောင်းသားဘဝက ကိုရီးယားစစ်ပွဲ၏ ဆိုးကျိုးကိုတွေကြုံခံစားခဲ့ရသည်။ တစ်နေ့တွင် ကျောင်းမှပြန်စဉ် စမ်းချောင်းလေးတစ်ခု တွင် ရေသောက်ရန် ခဏသွားလိုက်သည်။ ထိုအချိန်၌ မလှမ်းမကမ်းရှိ စစ်ဘေးဒုက္ခသည် သားအဖနှစ်ယောက်သည် ပုဇွန်တစ်ကောင်နှင့် ပတ်သက်၍ ငြင်းခုန်နေကြသည်ကို သတိထားမိလိုက်သည်။ သေသေချာချာဂရုစိုက်ကြည့်သောအခါ (အဖေနှင့်သမီး) သားအဖနှစ်ယောက်သည် ချောင်းထဲမှဖမ်းရသောပုဇွန်တစ်ကောင်ကိုကိုယ်တိုင်မစားကြပဲ တစ်ယောက်နှင့်တစ်ယောက် အပြန်အလှန်ကျွေးနေကြရာမှ ငြင်းခုန်နေကြောင်းကို  သတိထားမိခဲ့သည်။ ဖခင်ဖြစ်သူမှာ ဗုံးဒဏ်သင့်၍ ခြေထောက် ဆုံးရှုံးလာသူဖြစ်သည်။

           ထိုအချိန်တွင် ဘုန်းတော်ကြီးအိုဝူးဂျင် ကိုယ်တိုင်ဆာလောင်နေသော လူငယ်လေး တစ်ယောက်ဖြစ်သော်လည်း ၎င်းအဖြစ်အပျက်ကို မြင်လိုက်ရသည့်အချိန်နှင့်တပြိုင်နက်  ၎င်း၏စိတ်ထဲတွင် ငါသည့်တစ်နေ့တွင် ဆာလောင်ငတ်မွတ်နေသူများကို ကယ်တင်နိုင်သူ တစ်ယောက်အဖြစ် ဘဝကိုမြုပ်နှံမည်ဟူသော ရည်မှန်းချက်ကလေး စတင်ကိန်းအောင်း လာခဲ့သည်။ ၁၉၇၆ ခုနှစ်တွင် ကတ်သလစ်ဘုန်းတော်ကြီးအဖြစ်သို့ ရောက်ရှိပြီးသည်နှင့် ထိုရည်မှန်းချက်ကို ဂျွန်ဝမ့် ဘုရားကျောင်းတွင် စတင်အကောင်အထည်ဖော်ခဲ့ပါသည်။ အတွေ့အကြုံတစ်ခု စက်တင်ဘာလ (၁၂)ရက် ၁၉၇၆ခုနှစ်  တွင်ဘုန်းတော်ကြီး အိုဝူးဂျင် ၏ဘဝကို ပြောင်းလဲစေသော ကွီဒေါင် (အဖိုးတန်သားရတနာ) အမည်ရှိသော သူတောင်းစားအဖိုးနှင့် စတင်တွေ့ရှိခဲ့သည်။ ထိုနေ့တွင် ဘုန်းတော်ကြီးအိုဝူးဂျင်သည် ဘုရားကျောင်းဘေးမှ ဖြတ်သွားသော သူတောင်းစားတစ်ယောက်ကို သတိထားမိပြီး သိလိုစိတ်နှင့် နောက်ကလိုက်ကြည့်မိသည်။ ၎င်းနေထိုင်ရာ ယူဒေါင် တောင်ခြေသို့ ရောက်သောအခါ တွေ့လိုက်ရသောမြင်ကွင်းကြောင့် စိတ်တွင်ထိတ်လန့်အံ့ဩမိသွား သည်။ မြေကျင်းတစ်ခုထဲတွင် ဒုက္ခသည် သူတောင်းစား(၁၈)ယောက်သည် တစ်ယောက်နှင့်တစ်ယောက် ပူးပူးကပ်ကပ်တိုးဝှေ့ကာ နေထိုင်ကြသည်။ ၎င်းတို့သည် တောင်းရမ်းဖို့ရာပင် မစွမ်းနိုင်လောက်အောင် အားအင်ချိနဲ့နေကြသူများဖြစ်သည်။ ထိုသူတောင်းစားအုပ်စုတွင် တီဘီရောဂါဖြစ်နေသူများ၊ စိတ်ဝေဒနာသည်များ၊ အရက်စွဲနေကြသူများ၊ မျက်မမြင်များနှင့် ကိုယ်အင်္ဂါမသန်စွမ်းသူများ ပါဝင်နေသည်ကို တွေ့ရသည်။ ထိုဒုက္ခသည် (၁၈)ယောက်လုံးကို သူတောင်စားအဖိုးအိုကျီဒေါင် က သူတောင်းရမ်းရာမှ ရလာသော စားစရာများကို ဝေငှကျွေးပြီး ကျန်သောစားစရာ အနည်းငယ်ကိုသာ အဖိုးအိုကျီဒေါင် က စားလေသည်။ ထိုမြင်ကွင်းသည် ဘုန်းတော်ကြီး အိုဝူးဂျင် ၏ဘဝကိုပြောင်းလဲခဲ့လေသည်။

      ထိုနေ့ညတွင် ဘုန်းတော်ကြီးအိုဝူးဂျင် အိပ်မပျော်နိုင်ခဲ့ပေ။ တစ်ညလုံး လူးလိမ့်ရင်းနှင့် အဖိုးအို  ကွီဒေါင် အကြောင်းကိုသာ တွေးတောနေမိသည်။ ငါသည် သူဆင်းရဲများအတွက် ဘဝကိုပေးဆပ်မည်ဟူသော ရည်ရွယ်ချက်ဖြင့် ဘုန်းတော်ကြီးတစ်ပါးဖြစ်လာခဲ့ပေပြီ။ သို့သော်လည်း အဖိုးအိုကွီဒေါင် မူကား ငါထက်နိမ့်ကျသော ပညာရေးအဆင့်အတန်း၊ လူမှုရေးအခြေအနေတွင်ပင် လူသားတို့အပေါ်၌ ချစ်ခြင်းမေတ္တာထားခြင်းကို လက်တွေ့ကျင့်သုံးပြုနေပြီ။ ဘုန်းတော်ကြီး အိုဝူးဂျင်သည် ထိုအကြောင်းကို အပြန်အလှန်စဉ်းစားသုံးသပ်လျက် နေရင်း မနက်စောစော အာရုံတက်ချိန်လောက်တွင် ခေါင်းထဲ၌ဖြတ်ကနဲ အသိဉာဏ်တစ်ခုလင်းလက်သွားလေသည်။ ထိုအရာမှသင့်တွင်တောင်းရမ်း စားသောက်နိုင်မှာ အားအင်ကလေးရှိနေခြင်းသည်ပင်လျှင် ဘုရားသခင်၏ ကျေးဇူးတော်ကြောင့်ပင်ဖြစ်သည်ဟူ၏။ ထိုနေ့မနက်မိုးလင်းသည် နှင့် ဘုန်းတော်ကြီးအိုဝူးဂျင်သည် ၎င်းတွင်ရှိသမျှသော ဝမ်ငွေ ၁၃၈၁ (၀ဒေါ်လာ) ပိုက်ဆံ အားလုံးဖြင့် အုတ်၊ ဘိလပ်မြေ များဝယ်ယူပြီး ထိုတောင်းစားများအတွက် ချစ်ခြင်းမေတ္တာဂေဟာလေးတစ်ခု စတင်အုတ်မြစ်ချပေးခဲ့သည်။ အောက်တိုဘာလ (၁၅)ရက်၊ ၁၉၇၆ခုနှစ်  တွင် ယဒန်တောင်ခြေ၌ အခန်း(၅)ခန်းပါသော အဆောက်အဦးလေးကို စတင်ဆောက်လုပ်နိုင်ခဲ့ပေသည်။(၁)လအကြာတွင် ဆောက်လုပ်ပြီးစီး၍ ထိုသူတောင်းစား (၁၈) ယောက်လုံးကို စတင်ထားရှိနိုင်ခဲ့ သည်။ ယင်းအဆောက်အဦးကို ပတ်ဝန်းကျင်မှလူအများက “ချစ်ခြင်းစမတ္တာအိမ်ဂေဟာ” ဟုခေါ်ဝေါ်ကြလေသည်။

       ကူညီကယ်တင်ခြင်းနှင့်ထောက်ပံ့ခြင်း

     ဩဂုတ်(၁၆)ရက် ၁၉၇၈ ခုနှစ်တွင် ရွန်ပြောင်းမြို့၏ ဘန်တန် (ဂျော်ဒန်)တံတား အောက်တွင် သတိလစ်နေသော သေအံ့ဆဲဆဲ လူတစ်ယောက်ကို တွေ့ရှိခဲ့သည်။ ကျမ်းစာ (Luke.10:30-35) လာပြီးကူညီကယ်တင်သူအဖြစ် မည်သူတစ်ဦးတစ်ယောက်မျှ မလုပ်ခဲ့ကြပေ။ ငယ်စဉ်ဘဝမှာရည်မှန်းချက်အတိုင်း ဘုန်းတော်ကြီးအိုဂူးဂျင်သည် ကားကိုရပ်ထားပြီး ထိုအဖိုးအိုကို ကယ်တင်ရန်ဆေးရုံသို့ ပို့ဆောင်ပေးခဲ့သည်။ ဆေးရုံသိုသွားစဉ် လမ်း၌ ဘုန်းတော်ကြီးအိုးဝူးဂျင်သည် ကောင်းကင်ဘုံမှ အောက်ပါ မိန့်ကြားသံ များကို ကြားရလေသည်။ ဒီနေ့ထက်ပိုပြီး ဝမ်းမြောက်ဝမ်းသာ ဖြစ်ဖို့ကောင်းတဲ့နေ့ ရှိပါဦးမလား။ ငါ့၏ချစ်လှစွာသော သားတော်တစ်ယောက်ကို ကယ်တင်ခြင်းအတွက် ငါသည် သင့်အားဝမ်းမြောက်ဝမ်းသာ ကျေးဇူးတင်သည်။ ယနေ့မှစ၍ ငါသည်သင့်အား ကတိစကားထားအံ့။ ငါ၏အမည်နာမတွင် အနိမ့်ဆုံးအားဖြင့် ငါ၏ညီအစ်ကိုတော်များကို သင်လက်ခံထားလျှင် ငါသည်အစစအရာရာ အားလုံးကို တာဝန်ယူအံ့။ ထိုအခါသမယတွင် သူ၏ကောင်းမှုကို ဘုရားသခင်က အမှန်တကယ် ကျေနပ်အားရကြောင်း ဘုန်းတော်ကြီးအိုဝူးဂျင် ကောင်းစွာသိရှိလိုက်ရ လေသည်။

       ထိုနေ့မှအစပြု၍ ဘုန်းတော်ကြီး အိုဝူးဂျင်သည် နာမကျန်းသူများ၊ အိမ်ခြေရာမဲ့သူ များကို ကောက်ယူကယ်ဆယ်လိုက်တိုင်း ထိုသူတို့အတွက် လိုအပ်ချက်များ (စားစရာ၊ အဝတ်အထည်၊ ငွေကြေး၊ လုပ်အားပေးကူညီသူများ) အားလုံးသည် တနည်းတဖုံအားဖြင့် အလိုလိုပြည့်စုံလာကြောင်း သတိထားမိလေသည်။ ဤအကြောင်းကို ဘုန်းတော်ကြီး အိုဝူးဂျင်သည် ဝတ်ပြုဆုတောင်းပွဲများတွင် မကြာခဏဟောကြားလေ့ရှိသည်။ ကျွန်ုပ် မနက်စာ စားပြီး၍ လမ်းပေါ်တွင် သေအံ့ဆဲဆဲပုဂ္ဂိုလ်တစ်ယောက်ယောက်ကိုတွေ့ရှိပြီး ကယ်ဆယ်ခြင်းခံရအံ့။ ထိုနေ့အတွက် ကျွန်ုပ်မှာ စားစရာလက်ကျန်မရှိခဲ့လျှင်တောင်မှ နေ့လယ်စာစားချိန် မတိုင်ခင်ပင် အလှူရှင်တစ်ယောက်ယောက်ရောက်လာပြီး စားစရာများလှူဒါန်းကြလေသည်။

နယ်ပိုင်ဆရာတော်ကြီးမှ သဘောတူခွင့်ပြုခြင်း

        သန့်ရှင်းသောဝိညာဥ်တော်အားဖြင့် ဘုရားသခင်၏ချစ်ခြင်းမေတ္တာကို ဖွင့်လှစ် တော်မူခြင်းကြောင့် များစွာသော မကျန်းမာသူများ၊ အိမ်ခြေရာမဲ့သူများသည် တဖွဲ့ဖွဲ့ရောက်ရှိလာကြလေသည်။ ယခုအချိန်ထိ ကော့တုန်းနေးအသင်းတော်သည် မကျန်းမာသူများနှင့် အိမ်ခြေရာမဲ့သူပေါင်း (၁၃ဝဝ)ခန့် ကိုပြုစုစောင့်ရှောက်ပြီးဖြစ်သည်။  ၎င်းအနက်လူပေါင်း(၄၀၀၀ကျော်)မှာ ကွယ်လွန်သွားခဲ့ပြီး (၅၀၀၀) မှာ လူအဖွဲ့အစည်း အတွင်းသို့ပြန်လည် ဝင်ရောက်နိုင်ကြပြီး ကျန်(၄၀၀၀)မှာ ဂေဟာတွင်ဆက်လက် နေထိုင် ကြပါသည်။ ယခုအချိန်တွင် တောင်ကိုရီးယားနိုင်ငံ၏ ကာစီနယ်က ကော့တုန်းနေး သို့လာရောက် လည်ပတ်ပြီး အရင်လို(ဘုန်းတော်ကြီးများ နှင့် သီလရှင်များ ကော့တုန်းနေးအသင်းတော် ဟု ခွင့်ပြုကြေညာပေးခဲ့ပါသည်။

      ဘုရားသခင်သည် ကော့တုန်းနေးသို့တစ်ဘဝလုံးနှစ်မြုပ်၍ကူညီမည့်လူငယ်များကို လည်း ပေးသနားတော်မူခဲ့သည်။ ၁၉၇၆ ခုနှစ် တွင် ကော့တုန်းနေး သို့လူငယ်တစ်ယောက် ပထမဆုံးစတင်ရောက်ရှိလာခဲ့သည်။ ၁၉၈၁ ခုနှစ်တွင် မိန်းကလေးနှစ်ယောက် ရောက်ရှိ လာခဲ့သည်။ ယခုအချိန်ထိ ရဟန်းအပါးရေ(၁ဝဝ)ကျော်နှင့် သီလရှင် (၂၃၀)ပါး ကျော်တို့သည် ကော့တုန်းနေတွင် သူတို့၏ဘဝများကို နှစ်မြုပ်၍လာရောက် ကူညီလုပ်ကိုင်ပေးနေကြသည်။ ဒီဇင်ဘာလ (၂၇)ရက် ၁၉၈၆ခုနှစ် စိန့်ဂျွန်ပွဲတော်နေ့တွင် ဆရာတော်ကြီးနီကိုလပ်ရွန်(ယခုအချိန်တွင်တောင်ကိုးရီးယားနိုင်ငံ၏ကာဒီနယ်)က ကော့တုန်းနေးသို့ လာရောက်လည်ပတ်ပြီး ယေဇူးခရစ်တာ်၏ ရဟန်းတော်များ နှင့် သီလရှင်များ ကော့တုန်း‌နေးအသင်းတော် ဟု ခွင့်ပြု‌ကြေငြာခဲ့သည်။
